Barista Jam, hosted by UMG

Calling all “Skilled” Baristas!

It’s that time again. Upper Midwest Gourmet is hosting our 1st “Barista Jam” of 2008. Please consider this your official invitation.

A Barista Jam is a small non-competitive intimate gathering designed to bring together baristas for the purpose of networking, meeting new friends, sharing & leaning new skills and techniques, and gaining priceless knowledge from one another as well as from some invited experts. UMG hopes to raise the awareness and integrity of the barista position by helping to increase your knowledge of what it means to be a true, well trained and passionate barista. It IS NOT just a name and/or a job! It IS a skilled art! A barista jam builds community, increases knowledge and skills and can raise the level of understanding and respect for this highly regarded position.

This Jam will be held at the Upper Midwest Facility in Minneapolis, MN. Lunch, treats and drinks will be provided during the event. The date of choice is Thursday, April 17th from 10 AM to 2 PM (ish). We will keep the maximum number of attendees to 25 to keep the setting intimate and small enough to control and ensure that everyone will have appropriate time to share with and meet others. Please RSVP as soon as you can as we will close the invitation once we reach our 25. Please try to keep your number of attendees to a maximum of 4 per company to be fair to others.

Here is a quick overview of the agenda for the day;

- First Hour: Meet & GreetThis hour will be dedicate to just meeting one another and breaking the ice.

- Second Hour: EspressoThis hour will be dedicated to discussing the various elements of espresso in general.

 - Third Hour: CoffeeLike the 2nd hour, this hour will be dedicated to discussing the various elements of coffee.

- Forth Hour: Show & TellThis is where things get fun! This hour will be offered as an opportunity for each of us to share with other either in a group setting or individually. “You show me yours and I will show you mine”.

This is simply a “Guided direction” of how we hope the event will go. We will not be so determined to stick to this schedule and will adjust as the group deems necessary to any area of discussion or sharing.
