I just flew back from Italy and boy are my arms tired. Hahaha, sorry I couldn’t help myself. Once again I had a great trip, saw beautiful sites and met some fabulous people from Italy, Israel, Turkey, Great Britain, Argentina, Chili, Greece, Spain, Austria, Portugal, France and Germany.

European shows really are fabulous for getting the masses together from all over the world. Most importantly, I ate some really good gelato and saw some really nice alternative gelato / semifreddo ideas for us to incorporate year round and during the slower winter months.

Some of these pictures (click to enlarge) aren’t the greatest since I was taking pictures through display cases but they give you an idea of some of the easy ways to use up extra gelato and make fun cakes. Also notice the fun and pride the staff of these gelaterias have. They all smile and look great in their uniforms. Enjoy the pics and feel free to call me if you want help with anything you see. I’ll be working on some other recipes too that aren’t yet pictured so stay tuned.

2007 “Show Season” is upon us!

“ UP ShowMinneapolis Convention Center, Minneapolis, MN – Feb. 18th-20th, 2007

Coffee Fest ChicagoNavy Pier, Chicago, IL – Feb. 23rd-25th, 2007

WI Restaurant ExpoMidwest Airlines Center, Milwaukee, WI – March 12th-14th

As we prepare for the 2007 show season, we’ll pack our travel bags, kiss our kids, wifes or girlfriends goodbye, make a doctor or chiropractor appointment for the soonest available date in April and replace the “Dr Scholes” inserts in our shoes because we are in for a fast ride for the next few months!

Seriously though, we are entering into one of the busiest periods of the year for us, but it’s also one of the most exciting times for us. We love to see our customers face to face again or for the first time. We also are usually showing off some of our newest digs. This year is no let down. We have plenty to show you at each one of the shows listed below. You will just have to come to see us or wait till the “Brewsletter” or blogging’s after the show season to find out what.

Can your workplace be fun?

Here are a few more ideas for you to ponder when you think that you might be getting a little bored with work. Some of these might take a little effort to pull off successfully, but hey, don’t you think your cafe is worth it? I absolutely love to walk into a cafe and see the employee’s having a little fun while working. This shows me that they are committed to the cause and success of their workplace. Happy employee’s make happy customers, which makes happy owners because of the amount of happy money they are making. It’s a vicious cycle, but someone has to do it!

Once again, this is only a small portion of the complete list that you can find on “Brownie Locks web site (www.brownielocks.com), I have given the direct link to the calender page so you can take a look at the extensive list of events for each month. I would also encourage you to poke around the rest of their site. They have some pretty fun and cool things to use for free.

David checks in from Sorrento, Italy

Hello Upper Midwesters!!

sorrento2.jpgI’m writing to you all from the mountain top of the Hilton Palace in Sorento Italy. I just spent 3 days running around Naples trying all the Gelato. I think I had gelato in 4 or 5 places every day but who’s counting. (I have some fun pictures I’ll share later when the upload time isn’t as expensive. In the meantime, I’ve asked my blog coach to insert a couple of Sorrento photos from the net to spice up this post.)

sorrento1.jpgNeedless to say, it’s a tough job and I’m glad to be here for you all to do it. If you’ve never been to Naples I gotta tell you, it is one hell of a city. It’s like New York on steroids. New Yorkers have no clue what traffic is until they try and drive there.

Bethany and I took a ferry across the bay to Sorrento this morning and we’re very happy for the more relaxed pace and fresher air here. We’ll be here for 2 days before hopping on the 7 hour train up north to Riccione and the gelato convention.

As we sip our cappuccino in the unusually warm 70 degree weather we look forward to more good gelato and coffee here. I’ll try and check in again soon and stay posted for some great pictures.

Cheers,

David Chall
