As you all know, we try to maintain a green and blue lifestyle to our business in every way we can. We now send our newsletter on-line and do as much electronic mail as we can in order to eliminate as much printing waste as possible. However, we still get many requests for color flyer’s and point of sale materials, and lets face it, sometimes a fancy color flyer in hand really makes a difference in getting your attention to new products and trends. Did you know that Upper Midwest Gourmet has used “Solid Ink” technology for the past 4 years for all of it’s color documents? No you didn’t? What the heck is “Solid Ink” you say? Solid Ink was invented by Xerox. Even an environmentalist might need to print a flyer from time to time and Xerox found a way to do it without killing tons of trees, generating waste and producing toxins. Our Solid Ink printer use crayon-like ink blocks in place of plastic cartridges, greatly reducing waste. Solid Ink printers create five pounds of waste per 100,000 pages of print, compared to 157 pounds with the average color laser printer. They can print on regular or recycled paper and ours can also print double sided using half the paper of a single side printer. The ink is Non-toxic and safe to touch like crayons. Xerox Solid Ink printer were featured this month in Ode Magazine (the magazine for Intelligent Optimists) in there “Organic Top” article which is an annual feature of their top picks of favorite, fair and fun products from around the globe. Oh, and the color documents are not only pretty, but like crayons, the ink is waterproof. We’ll continue to get greener and bluer (is bluer a word? It must be:) every day and hope you will too.
Cheers, David
